How to watch movies for free, legally
Updated: 7 November 2026
Many websites promise free new movies, but most of them are pirate sites: they break copyright law and often carry malware or scam ads. The services below are legal and cost nothing, usually because they show ads. Keep in mind that brand-new releases are almost never free; free catalogues are mostly older films and selected titles.
1. ZEE5 (free with ads)
ZEE5 has a free, ad-supported section with selected movies and shows, alongside its paid plan. Some new films even premiere there for free.
2. JioHotstar (selected free titles)
JioHotstar marks some content as free to watch with ads. Most movies and big new releases need a subscription.
3. MX Player
MX Player streams a large catalogue of Indian movies and web series free with ads, mainly for viewers in India.
4. Official YouTube channels
Many film studios and music labels upload full movies to their own YouTube channels. Check that the channel really belongs to the studio before watching; some films are only available in certain countries.
5. Chorki (Bangladesh)
Chorki is mostly paid, but it keeps a small selection of free content for viewers in Bangladesh.
6. Internet Archive
For very old films that are in the public domain, the Internet Archive is a legal, free library.

Tips to stay safe
- If a site offers a film that is still in cinemas for free, it is almost certainly pirated.
- Never install an APK or browser extension just to watch a movie.
- Free catalogues differ by country, so check availability where you live.
- Use each app's own "Free" filter or section to find what is free today.
